Module One Tips and Instructions
Objective: In order to build a solid theory base of the teching and learning aspects of the library program, each participant in this wiki should read, view, or listen to a wide variety of professional literatue on four main topical areas. However, the literature in this area is far too large for any one reader to consume in the brief time we have together as a class. Therefore a wiki has been constructed in order to "collaboratively" read a much wider array of articles and books in the literature and then to share that knowledge with everyone else in theclass. In other words, instead of trying to divide the sheep from the goats in this class, our objective is for all of us to help build every other learner with as much information as possible in the time available.
Observations about the wiki: The instructor has set up this wiki something like a graphic organizer. That is, as each student reads and summarizes that reading, the summary will be entered into an appropriate classification in the wiki. If you find an article applicable to more than one category, it may be duplicated in both cateogories. The advantage of the wiki is that it can be searched for authors, article titles, and topics using the search box. This makes this wiki something of an infoBase of ideas.
Format for Item entry into the wiki: Enter into the wiki only those articles, book chapters, web sites, etc. that you feel others in the class would benefit from. Keep a log of all you read, but enter only a subset here.
For each entry, you will need the following:
-
The full citation
-
A summary of the major points something like an author would write as an abstract or summary of the major points made. It is often helpful to have these in a bulleted list so that other readers can grasp the sense of the article easily.
-
Add one or several subject tags that would be useful as search terms. You should add these tags to the end of the article summary and also copy them into the tags list, alphabetizing them for the convenience of everyone.
-
Finally, add your name and the date you added the article summary to the wiki.
-
If the article you wished to add has already been added to the wiki, you may wish to edit the summary of the previous reader to bring out points not already covered that are significant.
